Who are you?
I’m Mallory Fiscus, an amateur reader and professional writer. I live in the Midwest with my husband and our cat. I read mostly horror and horror-adjacent genres, but occasionally dabble in other areas like nonfiction or sci-fi. I write many different things from social media marketing content to support documentation to thoroughly-researched longform articles, because I like to learn about new subjects. But most of those things are written for clients or employers. The articles on this site are for me.

What is “Adequate Squatch”?
This blog used to be called Mal Has Bookworms, but I wasn’t feeling that name anymore. I settled on Adequate Squatch as a new name because it sounded cool, and because it’s just how I feel a lot the time — like a weirdo who’s nonetheless doing an okay job keeping it together.

Adequate Squatch Reads is mainly book reviews, with occasional articles on other book-related topics.

What is your preferred reading format?
I like to have physical copies of books when I can get them. For convenience I’ll often read ebooks on my Kindle (checked out via the Des Moines Public Library on the Libby app), especially when I’m traveling.

I also love to listen to audiobooks while driving, doing chores or working on an art project. My current preferred earbuds are Skullcandy Push Active True Wireless Earbuds. 

What are your rating standards?
Like many book reviewers, I use a five-star rating system. Visit my reviews page for a full description of my standards, and to browse my archives.

Will you review my book?
I’d love to! If you’d like me to cover a book you love, or if you’re an author looking to have a published work reviewed, fill out the contact form at the bottom of this page. Though I can’t guarantee a specific timeline, I do my best to respond to all requests I receive.
